The deed reads in part as follows:
This indenture made and concluded on the nineteenth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty six between Edwin Austin and Thomas Boaz of the State of Tennessee and County of Davidson of the one part and Joseph Moore and Charles Johnson trustees for the subscribers and Builders for Meeting house and School house in Davidson County of the other part by these presents do give and grant in behalf and confirm into the said Joseph Moore and Charles Johnson and their successors in office for the use and benefit of ourselves and Subscribers and builders of said meeting house and school house a piece or parcel of land in Davidson County on the headwaters of Hurricane Creek of Stones River containing three acres and one hundred ten poles with a free privilege of water in a spring near to the Beginning corner for the use of the institution that is on the said Austins land the above granted land and is humbly meant and intended to be for the purpose of a meeting house, school house and burying ground
